Eliza Jennings A SAIDO Learning™ Master Licensee

(Cleveland, Ohio) – Eliza Jennings, a nationally recognized and trusted expert in aging services, and its esteemed partner, Kumon Institute of Education of Osaka, Japan have executed a Master License Agreement to expand the treatment SAIDO Learning™, a non-pharmaceutical intervention that has been shown to improve the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

In 2011, Eliza Jennings offered the treatment to residents as the site of the first U.S. research trial of SAIDO Learning™. The six-month trial produced significantly positive results, and Eliza Jennings subsequently offered SAIDO Learning™ to residents throughout its residential communities. Now the sole licensee of SAIDO Learning™ outside of Japan, beginning this fall Eliza Jennings will sublicense SAIDO Learning™ to aging service organizations across the country.

In order to ensure fidelity to the SAIDO Learning™ methodology, the organization has established the Eliza Jennings Institute for SAIDO Learning™ to house the training facility and operations for this innovative therapy. Start-up costs for this enterprise will be funded, in part, by a significant grant award from The Cleveland Foundation.  The Cleveland Foundation was one of the early supporters of the SAIDO Learning initiative, funding both the research trial, as well as the roll-out throughout the network.

Now there is hope for people living with dementia. “For the first time, we can do more than simply care for older adults with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, we can now treat the symptoms and set goals for improvement,” said Eliza Jennings President and CEO Deborah Lewis Hiller. The expansion of SAIDO Learning™ throughout the United States will bring a sorely needed, innovative treatment for Alzheimer’s and other dementias to a market for which there is no proven alternative treatment. Moreover, it will permit Eliza Jennings to diversify its operations to help offset the continuing changes occurring in the country’s healthcare system.
